Caterpillar Inc. Maintains DividendThere was a major twist on Coronation Street on Friday night, as Shona Platt's mystery fling was exposed. Amid speculation she had cheated on her husband David Platt with their former brother-in-law Adam Barlow, it emerged someone else had caught Shona's eye. Now, fans are predicting a baby twist and a paternity bombshell are on the cards. Fans are convinced a full blown affair is on the way, and that Shona will fall pregnant leaving her unsure who the baby's father is. On Friday night Shona was hiding her actions from the night before after she hit the town, following a row with David. She'd told pal Roy Cropper she'd done something terrible and wanted to take it back but couldn't. David then caught her with the morning after pill, and assumed she'd taken it after they's slept together. He accused her of punishing him, not wanting a child with him after they faced splitting up over his lies. Shona went along with this, but it was soon teased she was hiding a shocking betrayal. David accused Shona of sleeping with Adam after he found out she'd stayed at his flat that night. Both parties denied this, with them revealing she slept in his bed, while Adam took the sofa after Shona got drunk and didn't want to go home. It turns out Adam had learned from Shona that she had in fact cheated on David, while it wasn't Adam who was the mystery fling. Later in the pub Shona was alarmed as Adam revealed about their chat, having kept quiet to David. He said that Shona had told him what had happened but had not given a name as to who she slept with. Adam told her: "I don't know what you did... scrap that! I don't know WHO you did. That's the only thing you didn't tell me last night." Shona was nervous about this and fled the pub, but on her way out all became clear. She bumped into detective Kit Green who smirked as he saw her, and he asked: "Are we gonna talk about last night?" Shona said back: "Last night never happened, you get me?" For now, David remains unaware of Shona’s night of passion with the police detective. But amid hints the storyline and the fling could carry on, fans have predicted what happens next. Taking to social media, viewers shared the theory that Shona would fall pregnant and not know who the father of her child was. One fan commented: "I feel a 'who's the dad?' storyline coming up in #corrie with Shona." Another agreed: "Unfortunately we are so getting a Shona/David/Kit who's the daddy storyline. Sigh." Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
Qatar tribune PA Media/dpa London Shoppers have been left bemused after spotting Easter eggs on supermarket shelves before New Year’s Eve. With Easter Sunday falling on April 20 next year, customers shared their confusion on social media after finding chocolate eggs and hot cross buns already for sale in shops including Morrisons, Tesco and Asda. One user, @Jingle1991, shared an image of Malteser Bunnies in Sainsbury’s on Christmas Eve and pointed out: “Jesus hasn’t even been born yet.” Meanwhile, Gary Evans from Margate shared a shot of Creme Eggs on display in Morrisons in Margate on Boxing Day. “I just think its crazy that everything is so superficial and meaninglessly commercial ... [there’s] something quite frantic about it,” the 66-year-old told the PA news agency. Joseph Robinson found Easter confectionery including Cadbury Mini Eggs, and themed Kit-Kat and Kinder Surprise products at his local Morrisons in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday evening. “It’s funny, as they’ve not even managed to shift the Christmas chocolates off the shelves yet and they’re already stocking for Easter,” the 35-year-old admin support worker told PA. “I wish that supermarkets weren’t so blatantly consumerist-driven and would actually allow customers and staff a time to decompress during the Christmas period.” Asked if he was tempted to make a purchase, Robinson added: “As a vegan it holds no appeal to me!” Mike Chalmers, a devout Christian from Chippenham, Wiltshire, was slightly less critical after spotting a display entitled: “Celebrate this Easter with Cadbury.” “Christmas and Easter are the two centrepoints of the Christian good news story so it’s no bad thing to see the connections,” the 44-year-old said. “It’s about more than shapes of chocolate thoug'h!” Marketing consultant Andrew Wallis admitted he was surprised to see Easter eggs in the Co-op in Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire, but added it also illustrates “forward-thinking” from big businesses. “It made me reflect on how big brands are always thinking ahead and planning early,” the 54-year-old from the Isle of Man, who provides marketing advice to the fitness industry, told PA. “My message to retailers would be: while planning ahead is important, it’s also essential to be mindful of consumer sentiment. “Some might feel it’s too early for seasonal products like this but others might see it as a sign of forward-thinking. “Striking the right balance is key to keeping customers happy.” Copy 29/12/2024 10None
NEW YORK (AP) — Having waited 63 years for an Ivy League football title, Columbia had to stand by for another 40 minutes. The Lions had beaten Cornell 17-9 but needed a Harvard loss against Yale to secure a share of first place on the season's final day. So Columbia players retreated to their locker room on a hill a few hundred feet from Wien Stadium to watch the game in Boston on TV as a few hundred fans remained and gazed at the gold-and-orange foliage of Inwood Hill Park glowing in Saturday's afternoon sun. When Yale recovered onside kick with seconds left to ensure a 34-29 Harvard defeat, players let out a scream and streamed back onto the field to celebrate, smoke cigars, lift a trophy and sing “Roar, Lion, Roar” with family and friends. Who would have thunk it? “You had the realization of, oh, I’m a champion, which is something that hasn’t been said here in a while,” co-captain CJ Brown said. Harvard dropped into a tie with Columbia and Dartmouth at 5-2, the first time three teams shared the title since 1982 — the conference doesn't use tiebreakers. “It was nerve-wracking, for sure, but definitely exciting because that's something that not a lot of people have experienced, especially here," running back Joey Giorgi said. There have been several top players at Columbia — Sid Luckman, Marty Domres, Marcellus Wiley among them — but the school is perhaps better known for owners such as the New England Patriots' Robert Kraft and former Cleveland Browns head Al Lerner. Columbia's only previous championship in 1961 also was shared with Harvard. That Lions team was coached by Buff Donelli, a former Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Rams coach who scored for the Americans in soccer's 1934 World Cup. Columbia set a then Division I-AA record with 44 consecutive losses from 1983-88, a mark broken by Prairie View’s 80 in a row from 1989-98. Since 1971, the Lions’ only seasons with winning records until now were 1994, 1996, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. Al Bagnoli, who won nine Ivy titles in 23 years at Penn, couldn't manage one at Columbia from 2015-22. He quit six weeks before the 2023 opener, citing health, and was replaced on an interim basis by Mark Fabish, his offensive coordinator. Jon Poppe, now 39, was hired last December after working as a Bagnoli assistant at Columbia from 2015-17 between stints at Harvard from 2011-14 and 2017-22, plus one season as a head coach at Division III Union College. He led the Lions to a 7-3 record overall, their most wins in a coach's first season since George F. Sanford's team went 9-3 in 1899. Poppe had wife Anna and 7-year-old daughter with him in the locker room watching the countdown to the title. “Sixty-three years of whatever into now,” he said. “Just seeing a lot of that history myself, personally. This is a hugely — a feeling of elation, seeing my dad on the field, a lot of emotional things with that.” Before a crowd of 4,224, quarterback Caleb Sanchez's 1-yard touchdown run put Columbia ahead in the second quarter. Giorgi's 1-yard TD run opened a 14-3 lead in the third and Hugo Merry added a 25-yard field goal in the fourth, overcoming three field goals by Alan Zhao. Giorgi rushed for 165 yards and finished his career with 2,112, second in school history. He and Brown missed what would have been their freshman season in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Given Columbia's athletic history — the most successful sport is fencing — it is not an obvious football destination. “I saw the dedication, whether it resulted in wins or losses,” Brown said. “I saw their dedication to the product that they put out on the field and also the athletic department, the facilities that we had here, the busses on schedule and stuff, I was like, OK, they care about their athletes. People here want to win and it doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past, it matters what we’re going to do now.” Poppe cited a mindset. “You get 10 opportunities, unlike other sports, it is a grind to play this sport and prepare the way we do just for 10,” he said. As the final whistle sounded in Boston, Brown noted an unusual initial reaction in the locker room. “It was like kind of awe when they recovered the kick,” he said. “It was a lot quieter than you would think it would be, but you could feel the joy and the elation.” They accomplished what more than six decades of their predecessors had failed to. As the players headed out, Poppe had a final word. “Day off tomorrow,” he said. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Saturday Night Live ’s Devon Walker has seen the online discourse comparing him and Pete Davidson . “There’s a longtime rumor that people think me and Pete Davidson look alike,” Walker, 33, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City on Thursday, December 5. “And that’s been something that I tried to fight for a long time.” Walker was referring to the countless posts on social media stating that he and Davidson, 31, have similar facial features. In addition to their looks, the comedians are also the same height: 6-foot-3. “People don’t realize that I’m tall. I’m 6-foot-3,” he said while clarifying that the internet has gotten his height wrong. “Make sure that’s on record. I’ve seen some stuff that says otherwise. I’m 6-foot-3. Just note that.” While Walker and Davidson have the SNL connection , the men were not on the main cast at the same time. Davidson joined the variety show for season 40 in 2014. Eight years later, Davidson announced his departure following season 47. Walker, for his part, joined SNL the following season. In his first year as a featured cast member, many fans pointed out his resemblance to Davidson not only with his looks but his laid-back nature. In a March 2023 interview with GQ , Walker addressed the comparisons for the first time. While Walker doesn’t see the resemblance between him and the Bupkis star, he takes the comparison as a compliment — especially given Davidson’s high-profile dating history . “People want to f— that guy, so I guess that’s nice,” he joked to the outlet. Davidson returned to SNL in season 49 to host, and the pair got to share the stage for the first time. Since his 2023 hosting gig, Davidson has returned to SNL on multiple occasions for brief cameos. Most recently, Davidson appeared when pal John Mulaney returned to host for season 50 in November. Davidson joined Mulaney for their latest musical sketch . Following the episode, Walker shared a pic via social media of him posing alongside Davidson. “Ok but after this we gotta stop talking about it,” Walker wrote via Instagram alongside the photo of him and Davidson standing with their arms crossed. This show, full of humor, satire and fun, promises to close with a flourish not only the season, but also the history of this 2024 in the emblematic cultural space. A play to laugh and reflect The staging offers a modern and fun interpretation of traditional Mexican pastorelas, combining social and political criticism with light-hearted humor. With a talented cast and a script full of wit, “The Real Mexican Pastorela Chou” has won over local audiences and visitors to Puerto Vallarta. Satire, comedy and cabaret have been fundamental tools in the performing arts for social criticism due to their ability to mix entertainment with deep reflection. Humour and exaggeration allow complex or sensitive topics to be addressed in a light and understandable way. This makes it easier for the audience to connect emotionally with the messages and analyse them without feeling attacked. Satire and cabaret, in particular, use irony and sarcasm to expose injustices or abuses of power. Their symbolic and metaphorical format allows problems to be pointed out without mentioning them explicitly, which has historically avoided censorship in oppressive regimes. By ridiculing social, political or cultural situations, the audience sees itself reflected in the characters and recognises its own experiences. This identification generates empathy and provokes the need to question reality. Humour acts as an escape valve for social tensions. It allows repressed emotions to be released through laughter, while inviting people to think of solutions to the problems presented. While entertaining, they also educate. These art forms present uncomfortable truths wrapped in laughter, which motivates the audience to reflect even after the performance. Cabaret and comedy can quickly adapt to current issues, staying relevant and responding to the pulse of society. Their ability to improvise makes them powerful tools to keep social conversations alive. Being aimed at a diverse audience, these genres break down barriers of class, gender or age. This creates an inclusive space where critical ideas can be widely disseminated. From Classical Greece, with the works of Aristophanes, through the commedia dell'arte in the Renaissance, to the European cabarets of the 20th century, these artistic forms have served as cultural mirrors to denounce injustices. Satire, comedy and cabaret have been effective for social criticism because they generate laughter, reflection and change. They not only entertain, but invite us to question the world, fostering conversations necessary to transform society. The farewell of a 2024 on an unforgettable stage. The function also marks the end of the activities of La Gata Foro Bar, a place that during 2024 has been a refuge for artists, musicians and culture lovers. Located at Calle Matamoros 869-A, almost on the corner with Allende, in the center of Puerto Vallarta, this forum has left an indelible mark on the local art scene and has shown that with effort and dedication great achievements can be achieved. Let us remember that not long ago, hurricane winds left this beautiful place without a roof, so it had to close operations, but this 2024 showed that even with inclement weather, art can continue to be created and a new history for Cabaret culture can be built. Pre-sale and reservations Tickets are now available in pre-sale for $160 and can be purchased on the day of the event for $200. Due to the expected high demand, it is recommended to reserve in advance by calling 322 191 7478. A night to celebrate theater and the community. This event promises to be an unforgettable experience, not only for the show itself, but also for being a tribute to the legacy of La Gata Foro Bar as a cradle of artistic expression in Puerto Vallarta. At La Gata Foro Bar you can not only enjoy plays, but also a cozy atmosphere full of bohemian people who share dreams and hopes for a better world. Its intimate and vibrant atmosphere has made it an ideal space for artistic expression and human connection. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this final chapter. Come and enjoy a night full of laughter, excitement and culture in a spectacular farewell!Field Hockey: Ashley Sessa has two assists as Northwestern routs St. Joe’s for NCAA title

Apple’s investment in the UK over the last five years has now surpassed £18 billion, with the technology giant’s engineering teams in the country doubling in that time, the iPhone maker has said. The US tech giant said it now supported 550,000 jobs in the UK through direct employment, its supply chain and the economy around its App Store – with app developers having earned nearly £9 billion since it launched in 2008. Apple said its engineering teams were carrying out critical work on the firm’s biggest services, including key technology within Apple Intelligence, the iPhone maker’s suite of generative AI-powered tools which are expected to launch in the UK for the first time this week. Elsewhere, the firm said its growing TV empire, spearheaded by its Apple TV+ streaming service and production arm, had also helped boost its investment in the UK with Apple TV+ production in this country tripling in the last two years, the company said. Chief executive Tim Cook said: “We’ve been serving customers in the UK for more than 40 years, and we’re proud of our deep connection with communities across this country. “We’re thrilled to be growing our Apple teams here, and to keep supporting the extraordinary innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs who are pushing the boundaries of technology in so many ways.” The Chancellor Rachel Reeves said companies such as Apple were “intrinsic” to the UK’s prosperity by boosting jobs. “This government is laser focused on creating the right conditions for growth to help put more money in people’s pockets. “That’s what underpins the Plan for Change and is what has driven £63 billion worth of inward investment in the UK through our first international investment summit. “Companies like Apple are intrinsic to the success of our nation’s prosperity – helping deliver jobs, innovative technology, and boost infrastructure.”Native American youth panel emphasizes this mental health message: It's always OK to ask for help

RECOMMENDED — Japanese society is famously polite but rising numbers of rude, abusive, even violent customers is changing thatCOALFIELD — Despite missing five players, including a pair of starters, and only dressing nine total for a pair of Hall of Champions games Saturday evening, the Cleveland Lady Raiders notched two more easy victories. "We had so many players step up yesterday (Saturday) to make big plays when we needed it the most," related second-hear Cleveland head coach Bianca Hensley of a 71-50 blowout of host Coalfield followed shortly by a 63-39 thrashing of 2024 Class 1A State Quarterfinalist Clay County. "We didn't have the best start to the Clay County game, but our kids are resilient. They found a way after playing back-to-back games to come away with two wins." With recent Tennessee commit Lauren Hurst out for a third straight game with a groin injury, plus senior starter Tamiah Tanner unavailable as well, several younger players showed what they can do in the twinbill. The 2024 TSSAA Class 4A State Semifinalist Lady Raiders will turn around and play in the Silverdale Thanksgiving Invitational Monday through Wednesday. In the opening round Monday at 7 p.m., Cleveland (3-0) will battle Tyner Academy, which rolled over Signal Mountain 68-32 in its season opener Thursday. The Lady Raiders will face either Soddy Daisy (1-1) or Walker Valley (0-2) in Tuesday's Round 2 before at 3 p.m. before capping the event Wednesday. The other teams participating in the tournament-style play are defending champion Murfreesboro Central-Magnet (1-1), Ooltewah (2-1), Red Bank (1-1) and host Silverdale (2-0). Both teams ripped the cords for 19 points in the opening period before Cleveland took command with a 22-6 second frame advantage. Despite being down 41-25, the Class 3A hosts fought back to win the third quarter 18-14, but the Lady Raiders turned it on down the stretch to pull away with a 16-7 final frame advantage. Posting their highest point total of the young season, freshman Ariyah Huffman drilled a trio of 3-pointers, plus went 5-for-6 at the free throw line for 20 points in her first varsity start. After leading the team in scoring in the season opening win over Baylor, sophomore Laney Copeland sizzled the nylon on four long-range shots on her way to 18 markers. "Ariyah Huffman and Laney Copeland led the way offensively against Coalfield," praised Coach Hensley. "(Sophomore) Izzy Smith came off the bench and was a huge spark plug, hitting two 3s, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds." Like her little sister, senior sharpshooter Emma Smith also drilled a pair from "downtown" on her way to 10 points. "(Freshman) Addy Gravelle gave us great minutes off the bench with eight points," the Lady Raider mentor proclaimed. "We had another great game shooting the ball making 13 3's. "(Sophomore) Emily Patterson led us with 10 rebounds. She does all the small things by getting us extra possessions." Once again the opening quarter saw a very tight battle between 2004 TSSAA State qualifiers with Cleveland holding a narrow 18-16 edge. The Lady Raiders were able to open up a little breathing room (16-10) in the second frame for an eight-point halftime advantage. After the intermission, the Cleveland defense took over, holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 13 second half points, while pouring in 29 of their own for the third 20-plus point win of the campaign. Emma Smith topped the scoring tally with 20 points, including a pair of triples and going 6-for-7 at the charity stripe. Patterson helped out with 10 points, including 4-of-5 foul shots, while Huffman netted eight and Copeland seven, with a trey and 4-for-4 at the stripe. Freshman Jada Davis, who had a 3-pointers in each of the three games so far, and Izzy Smith netted five apiece. Although only hitting five 3-pointers in the win, Cleveland went 24-of-31 at the free throw line. Clay County's (0-2) other loss this season came to 2024 Class 3A State Runner-up Upperman.
