Essentials include pet food, water bowls, collars, flea, tick and worm treatment and waste management items like litter boxes. The research also found that more than three-quarters (76 per cent) of related charities have seen a spike in requests for services and support from vulnerable and homeless pet owners in the past year. One in five Australians experiencing homelessness own a pet. in Marrickville and the Petbarn Foundation are joining forces to provide pet essentials and vet advice for those in need on Thursday, November 28 in Marrickville. National Petbarn Foundation manager Janelle Miller said pets play a "vital role" in the lives of vulnerable Australians. "No one should have to make the heartbreaking choice between their own well-being or the health and safety of their pets in times of crisis," she said. As part of its ongoing initiative, the Petbarn Foundation will donate $100,000 worth of pet food and supplies to Addi Road, including 600 "Pet Santa" packs for those in need. Addi Road supports around 8,000 vulnerable people in the community every week and many of those are pet owners.
