Why Tinubu will be reelected president in 2027 - Reno Omokri
Beyoncé is taking the title of "greatest pop star of the 21st century" pretty serious. On Dec. 25, everyone tuned into Netflix's streaming two NFL games: Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by the Baltimore Ravens vs. the Houston Texans. The Chiefs and Ravens won. Despite losing the game, the Texans still had a reason to celebrate on Christmas. Beyoncé, a Houston native, performed for her hometown during the half-time show dubbed the " Beyoncé Bowl" and had the internet in shambles. Performing songs from her 2024 album Cowboy Carter for the first time, including her renditions of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and The Beatles' "Blackbird," Beyoncé pulled out all the stops to deliver a live set that rivaled even the greatest Super Bowl halftime shows of all time. The 14-minute live performance had a little something-something for die-hard Beyhive and fans of Cowboy Carter's rising country star features. Singers Tierra Kennedy Tanner Addell, Brittney Spencer, and Reyna Roberts, featured on "BLACKBIRD," joined Beyoncé for a harmonious entrance onto the football field. During the medley of the most upbeat tracks from her eighth studio, Beyoncé was joined by Shaboozey, who is featured on "SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN'" and Post Malone for a "LEVII JEANS" duet. The moment that stole the night was a surprise cameo by Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter , who kept up with the entire ensemble, hitting the 8-count like nobody's business. We've truly come a long way from Blue Ivy's first stage performance with her mom at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards... ...to the 2023 Renaissance World Tour... ... to now. This year, Beyoncé was officially named the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard , and honestly, I see the vision because that halftime show was ridiculous. If you don't want to take my word for it, here's what the internet has to say about it: Blue! Boozey! Brittney! Tiera! Tanner! Reyna! Post! Rodeo Queens! Black cowboys and cowgirls! Marching bands! Line dancing! Effective arrangement of the medley! NO BUFFERING!!!! “take these broken wings and learn to fly”. that’s what this entire year has felt like. thank you @beyonce for this moment. for all the beautiful black girls, i hope you see this as a testament that you can be whoever you want to be and do whatever you set your mind to pic.twitter.com/39avsneBcU It must be hard being a Beyonce hater. She’s been on your tv and in your ears since the Clinton administration. And just when you thought the door was closing, she comes with a trilogy of albums and tours and her daughter. pic.twitter.com/sp8voH9vm8 Beyoncé explaining how she wanted to be in the air , on the field and on a horse in a span of 15min pic.twitter.com/HTuo8ayjr3 Beyoncé just gave the best superbowl performance of all time and it wasn’t even the superbowl #BeyonceBowl pic.twitter.com/8yty7bEiWz me telling my family “that’s blue ivy” during beyonce’s performance pic.twitter.com/QZX4ONjhld i’m so lucky to be alive at the same time as beyonce pic.twitter.com/4xuu7fTo2t Beyoncé Bowl: 27M viewers (US) CMA 2024: 6M viewers pic.twitter.com/rAWbti68PG All the women in my family as soon as Beyoncé performance was over pic.twitter.com/gjlj4bTbRK Beyonce needs to find a way to do background checks on everybody’s opinions on Cowboy Carter before she give em tickets. Me seeing Ashley Everett: 🫨 My mama: Who is that? pic.twitter.com/4czzofQK6O Please don’t ever compare that other pop star to Beyoncé ever again. Beyonce girrrrl pic.twitter.com/xB5FDJTVKv just realized beyoncé didn’t perform ameriican requiem, bodyguard, II most wanted or tyrant because she’s saving them for the grammys performance and tour pic.twitter.com/vUg44oEi5n And finally, Beyoncé even had Tomi Lahren, who is infamously a problematic conservative internet personality, gagged. That's impact! Can we stop with the faux outrage about Beyoncé? I’m not her biggest fan either, but she put on a good performance and she is immensely talented. As conservatives, we don’t have to be outraged by everything, it’s a tired charade. You can watch Beyonce Bowl streaming on Netflix .

Mumbai: Intra-country remittances through payment vehicles have dropped nearly 25-30% in November and December after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed lenders to maintain detailed records of recipients, industry executives told ET. These new domestic money-transfer rules, which kicked in from November 1, are aimed at preventing the misuse of banking channels for online frauds. ET Year-end Special Reads Two sectors that rose on India's business horizon in 2024 2025 outlook: Is it time for cautious optimism or rekindling animal spirits? 2024: Govt moves ahead with simultaneous polls plan; India holds largest democratic exercise All leading players in the domestic money transfers (DMT) business, such as Fino Payments Bank , Airtel Payments Bank , NSDL Payments Bank , Spice Money, PayNearby, FIA Technology, and PayPoint, have seen a drop in business, said the executives cited above. "Implementing the new RBI guidelines is tough, and we had hoped the regulator would give us an extension," said an industry participant. "We have put in place APIs to conduct KYC of the remitter and store records of the recipient, but it's a cumbersome process. In the November and December period, business is down 30% month-on-month." Fino Payments Bank, one of the largest listed players in the domestic remittance business, has seen business drop more than 30% in November and December, industry sources revealed. Fino processes more than ₹3,500 crore in remittances every month. At the end of the September quarter, Fino had processed domestic transfers worth ₹10,453 crore. For the full fiscal year ending March 2024, total remittances stood at ₹52,695 crore. Industry sources suggested the payments bank had seen a similar impact on its DMT business. NSDL Payments Bank, which processes nearly ₹2,000 crore of domestic remittances in a month, has seen business fall by more than 30%. It had processed Rs 24,000 crore in FY24. PayNearby, which processes close to ₹1,500 crore monthly transfers has seen a similar impact, sources said. Fino PB, NSDL PB, Airtel PB declined to comment. Spice Money & PayNearby did not respond to ETs query. DMT companies have suggested it would take another quarter for the industry to stabilise and achieve a "new normal". "The markets have dropped by 25-30%, but the sense is it will settle to a level lower than what it used to be," said an industry official, who did not wish to be named. "It will start stabilising in another quarter." As per RBI rules, there is a ₹25,000 monthly cap on DMT, with a daily limit capped at ₹5,000. These transactions also require second factor authentication as per the new rules that seek to curb money laundering. Industry sources suggest the domestic remittances industry has swelled to more than ₹2.5 lakh crore annually. Delhi, Mumbai, Indore, Rajasthan and Gujarat are among the major corridors from where a large chunk of the remittances originates. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are among the largest receivers of these inflows. Experts say that remittance flows are a good proxy of the state of the intra-country migrant economy. While conduits for such transfers vary, payment companies use NPCI's Aadhaar-enabled payment services and DMT channels such as bank-to- bank transfers through IMPS or NEFT. (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel )Lebawit Lily Girma | (TNS) Bloomberg News When winter rolls around, travelers predictably turn their attention to beaches. And this year, it’s the destination that comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called “a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean” that’s experiencing outsize demand from Americans planning a warm island vacation. Talk about trashing stereotypes. Puerto Rico has recovered overseas visitors (excluding those from Canada and Mexico) faster than any U.S. state or territory — a staggering 85% increase over its 2019 overseas inbound visitor levels as of 2023, according to an October study from the U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office. There are now more daily flights from the U.S. West Coast, and hotel bookings are 6% higher so far in this last quarter of 2024 year-over-year. It’s a trifecta of tourism growth: more visitors, but also longer stays and a higher spend that reached a record $9.8 billion in 2023, boosting small businesses as well as major brands. “We don’t have a slow season in Puerto Rico anymore,” says Brad Dean, chief executive officer at Discover Puerto Rico. Even if they’re not booking, people are dreaming about “La Isla.” By tracking flight searches for trips between November 2024 and February 2025, a measure of “inspirational” demand, tourism intelligence company Mabrian Technologies reports Puerto Rico is up 9% compared with the same period last year and leads Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the Bahamas in the Caribbean proper. Only Costa Rica ranked higher in the wider region. Dean attributes Puerto Rico’s ongoing tourism growth to a strategic effort to reposition the island’s brand as more than a sun-and-sea destination, starting back in 2018. That led to the Live Boricua campaign, which began in 2022 and leaned heavily on culture, history and cuisine and was, Dean says, “a pretty bold departure” in the way Puerto Rico was showcased to travelers. He adds that at least $2 billion in tourism spend is linked to this campaign. “We (also) haven’t shied away from actively embracing the LGBTQ+ community, and that has opened up Puerto Rico to audiences that may not have considered the Caribbean before,” Dean says. Hotels are preparing to meet this growing demand: A number of established boutique properties are undergoing upgrades valued between $4 million and more than $50 million, including Hotel El Convento; La Concha, which will join the Marriott Autograph Collection; Condado Vanderbilt Hotel; and the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar. That’s in addition to ultra-chic options that are coming online in 2025, including the adults-only Alma San Juan, with rooms overlooking Plaza Colón in the heart of Old San Juan, and the five-star Veranó boutique hotel in San Juan’s trendy Santurce neighborhood. The beachfront Ritz-Carlton San Juan in Isla Verde will also be reopening seven years after Hurricane Maria decimated the island. The travel industry’s success is helping boost employment on the island, to the tune of 101,000 leisure and hospitality jobs as of September 2024, a 26% increase over pre-pandemic levels, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Efforts to promote Puerto Rico’s provinces beyond the San Juan metro area — such as surfing hub Rincón on the west coast, historical Ponce on the south coast and Orocovis for nature and coffee haciendas in the central mountains —have spread the demand to small businesses previously ignored by the travel industry. Take Sheila Osorio, who leads workshops on Afro-Puerto Rican bomba music and dance at Taller Nzambi, in the town of Loíza, 15 miles east of San Juan; or Wanda Otero, founder of cheese-producing company Vaca Negra in Hatillo, an hour’s drive west of Old San Juan, where you can join a cheese-making workshop and indulge in artisanal cheese tastings. “The list of businesses involved in tourism has gone from 650 in 2018 to 6,100, many of which are artists and artisans,” Dean says. While New Yorkers and Miami residents have always been the largest visitor demographic, Dean says more mainland Americans now realize that going to Puerto Rico means passport-free travel to enjoy beaches, as well as opportunities to dine in Michelin-rated restaurants, hike the only rainforest in the U.S. and kayak in a bioluminescent bay. Visitors from Chicago and Dallas, for example, have increased by approximately 40% from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, compared with the same period in 2022-2023, and more travelers are expected from Denver now that United Airlines Holdings Inc. has kicked off its first nonstop service to San Juan, beginning on Oct. 29. Previously, beach destinations that were easy to reach on direct flights from Denver included Mexico, Belize and California, but now Puerto Rico joins that list with a 5.5-hour nonstop route that cuts more than two hours from the next-best option. Given United Airlines’ hub in San Francisco, it could mean more travelers from the Golden State in the near future, too. In December, U.S. airlines will have 3,000 more seats per day to the territory compared with the same period last year, for a total of 84,731 — surpassing even Mexico and the Dominican Republic in air capacity, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, the island’s primary gateway, is projecting a record volume of 13 million passengers by year’s end — far surpassing the 9.4 million it saw in 2019. As for Hinchcliffe’s “floating island of garbage” line, Dean says it was “a terribly insensitive attempt at humor” that transformed outrage into a marketing silver lining, with an outpouring of positive public sentiment and content on Puerto Rico all over social media. Success, as that old chestnut goes, may be the best revenge. “It was probably the most efficient influencer campaign we’ve ever had,” Dean says, “a groundswell of visitors who posted their photos and videos and said, ‘This is the Puerto Rico that I know.’” ©2024 Bloomberg L.P. SWEETWATER COUNTY -- State Rep. Clark Stith (R-HD48) is wrapping up and gracefully exiting the public stage -- at least for now -- by thanking local politicians for their support and help. "It's been an honor and a privilege," Stith told the Sweetwater County commissioners during the public comment portion of their meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3. "I think we've worked well together." Stith will be exiting his state office after the new year. In his place will be newcomer Darin McCann, who bested Stith in the Primary Elections, 617-490. The commissioners on Tuesday were quick to credit Stith for his service on the Wyoming State Legislature. Chairman Keaton West told Stith he will be missed. Commissioner Taylor Jones thanked Stith, noting Stith's insight and intelligence "will be sorely missed." Commissioner Robb Slaughter dittoed the sentiment. Commissioner Island Richards said he has been friends with Stith for a long time, adding he thought Stith has done a "fantastic job" while in office. He said Stith will leave "big shoes to fill." Commissioner Mary Thoman offered a simple "thanks." West noted Stith always kept the commissioners up to date about what was going on with the legislature, something few other local legislators can say they've done the same. Stith spoke with the Rocket Miner following public comments. "I'm not going anywhere," he said, noting his law practice keeps him very busy. He will also continue to work and give back to the community, he added. One project Stith hopes to continue and see to its completion is the Bitter Creek project. He said it will be up to the city of Rock Springs to put the pressure on the legislature, but noted it is important to get that part of town out of the flood plain so that it does not further deteriorate. "It's not about Bitter Creek, really. It's about people and providing them a safe place." Background Stith moved to Wyoming in 1997. It is in Rock Springs that he started his law practice and raised his family. Stith was always active in the community and had numerous volunteer positions. He served as a Rock Springs City Council member from 2013-2017. In 2017, Stith was appointed to fill the vacant position for House District 48 and then was elected into the position in 2018. He is currently the Speaker Pro Tempore. Following his defeat in this past Primary Election, Stith said, “It sounds like the voters in my district want change and change they will get. It’s been an honorable lifetime to serve in the Wyoming Legislature. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I hope I left the state a little better than when I first went into the legislature.”
TORONTO — Canada's decision to deploy a drone to spy on a New Zealand training session at the Paris Olympics was "completely stupid," says FIFA vice-president Victor Montagliani. "In the sense that I have no idea what the hell you're going to get out of that," said Montagliani, a former Canada Soccer president who is also president of CONCACAF, which covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. The scandal cost Canada women's coach Bev Priestman her job, with assistant coach Jasmine Mander and analyst Joe Lombardi also leaving Canada Soccer. All three are serving one-year suspensions from FIFA. "Now, listen, do clubs and countries push the envelope to try to gain an upper hand? Yeah," said Montagliani when asked about the scandal at a media roundtable Monday. "If we say no to that, we're fools. "We've all been into countries that will do anything they can, whether its fireworks the night before a match. Whatever they think that will get you three points. Because when it comes to football, a lot of countries think it's war. But for me personally I just thought it (the drone spying) was the definition of stupidity." FIFA, which runs the football competition at the Olympics, also docked the Canadian women six points at the tournament after a Canadian staffer was caught using a drone to spy on New Zealand team practices before the start of competition at the Paris Games. Canada Soccer was also fined 200,000 Swiss francs ($322,500). Canada Soccer continues to investigate just how deep a culture of spying was ingrained in the organization and has opened a disciplinary hearing into former Canada men's and women's coach John Herdman, who resigned as Toronto FC coach last month. "If any of this stuff reveals any new information whatsoever that's subject to FIFA jurisdiction, the FIFA ethics committee or discipline committee, or both, will act on it," Montagliani said. Montagliani says disciplinary issues in soccer usually fall under the national governing body. But Canada Soccer could refer the matter to FIFA if it has wider-ranging implications. --- Follow @NeilMDavidson on X platform This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 8, 2024. MAPUTO, Mozambique. (AP) — At least 6,000 inmates escaped from a high-security prison in Mozambique's capital on Christmas Day after a rebellion, the country's police chief said, as widespread post-election riots and violence are roiling the country. Police chief Bernardino Rafael said 33 prisoners died and 15 others were injured during a confrontation with the security forces. The prisoners fled during violent protests that have seen police cars, stations and infrastructure destroyed after the country's Constitutional Council confirmed the ruling Frelimo party as the winner of the October 9 elections. The escape from the Maputo Central Prison, located 14 kilometres (9 miles) southwest of the capital, started around midday on Wednesday after “agitation” by a “group of subversive protesters” nearby, Rafael said. Some of the prisoners at the facility snatched weapons from the guards and started freeing other detainees. “A curious fact is that in that prison we had 29 convicted terrorists, who they released. We are worried, as a country, as Mozambicans, as members of the defence and security forces,” said Rafael. “They (protesters) were making noise, demanding that they be able to remove the prisoners who are there serving their sentences”, said Rafael, adding that the protests led to the collapse of a wall, allowing the prisoners to flee. He called on the escaped prisoners to surrender to authorities and for the population to be informed about the fugitives. Videos circulating on social media show the moment inmates left the prison, while other recordings reveal captures made by military personnel and prison guards. Many prisoners tried to hide in homes, but some were unsuccessful and ended up being detained again. In one video, a prisoner still with handcuffs on his right wrist says he was held n the disciplinary section of the prison and was released by other inmates. Violence has engulfed Mozambique since the country's highest court confirmed ruling Frelimo party presidential candidate Daniel Chapo as the winner of disputed October 9 elections on Monday. Mozambique's Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda told a news conference in Maputo late Tuesday that the violence was led by mostly youthful supporters of losing candidate Venancio Mondlane, who received 24% of the vote, second to Chapo, who got 65%. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is concerned at the violence and urges all political leaders and relevant parties “to defuse tensions including through meaningful dialogue (and) legal redress,” UN associate spokesperson Stephanie Tremblay said Thursday. The UN chief also calls for a halt to the violence and redoubled efforts “to seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis,” she said. The last time the New York Islanders won at least three straight games, it catapulted them into the playoffs. A playoff berth isn't imminent for the Islanders, but a third straight win -- this one against the hottest team in the NHL -- will continue to improve an outlook that appeared bleak just days ago. The Islanders will try to build off a successful weekend Tuesday night when they host the Los Angeles Kings in a nonconference clash in Elmont, N.Y. Both teams were off Monday after earning wins this weekend. The Islanders notched their second victory in 24 hours by beating the host Ottawa Senators 4-2 on Sunday, and the Kings extended their winning streak to five games by defeating the visiting Minnesota Wild 4-1 on Saturday. The Islanders won despite taking a season-low 13 shots. But New York, whose power play is ranked next-to-last in the NHL, scored twice with the man advantage and goalie Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves. "I think we were good in the right moments," said Islanders left winger Anders Lee, who had the first power-play goal. "We had to grind it out. It was an ugly one (Sunday) for us. It had to be ugly." The two-game winning streak is just the second of the season for the Islanders, who edged the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Saturday. New York hadn't earned consecutive wins since beating the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Senators back on Nov. 5 and 7. The latest back-to-back wins came immediately after New York lost 10 of 13 (3-5-5) to fall into last place in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders entered Monday tied for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers, though the Rangers had three games in hand heading into Monday's meeting with the Chicago Blackhawks. "This weekend was a good step for us," Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock said. The Islanders haven't won more than two straight games since April 1-11, when they won six in a row to climb into third place in the Metropolitan Division. New York clinched a playoff berth four days later. Establishing some winning consistency hasn't been a problem for the Kings, whose winning streak has vaulted them into second place in the Pacific Division. The five-game run is the longest active in the NHL and the first such streak for Los Angeles since it won five straight from Nov. 16-25, 2023. Los Angeles has endured just two losing streaks this season and is 7-2-0 since dropping consecutive games to the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 11 and 13. The Kings have thrived during the current surge against the Wild, Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars, who are the top three teams in the Central Division. Los Angeles outscored the trio 11-4 overall -- including 7-1 in the last five periods since the Stars took a 2-0 first-period lead last Wednesday night. "We like the challenge of playing against top teams," said Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper, who made 22 saves in his return to the lineup Saturday after an eight-game absence due to a lower-body injury. "You know you have to be at your best. You need everybody, so those are fun as a group and good measuring sticks." Adrian Kempe scored his team-leading 13th goal in the game against the Wild.
