Dreeshen said the move comes as the province aims to shift from a focus on revenue back to traffic safety. The orders come into effect in April and will prohibit the use of photo radar on all numbered provincial highways, with photo radar instead restricted to playgrounds, school zones, and construction sites. The new measures also include limiting intersection cameras to just red light violations, which Dreeshen said will eliminate violations for “speed-on-green.” Over the coming months, Dreeshen said the province will be reviewing all 2,200 photo radar sites and will remove all that it deems “ineffective,” or are found outside of construction, playground, and school zones.
