We Should Have Listened To Jimmy CarterWalmart is the latest and largest company to reverse its diversity and inclusion policies
Former President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100. The 39th president of the United States was a Georgia peanut farmer who sought to restore trust in government when he assumed the presidency in 1977 and then built a reputation for tireless work as a humanitarian. He earned a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He died Sunday, more than a year after entering hospice care, at his home in Plains, Georgia. At age 52, Carter was sworn in as president on Jan. 20, 1977, after defeating President Gerald R. Ford in the 1976 general election. Carter left office on Jan. 20, 1981, following his 1980 general election loss to Ronald Reagan. Here's the latest: The longest-lived American president died Sunday, more than a year after entering hospice care , at his home in the small town of Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died at 96 in November 2023 , spent most of their lives. “Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” The Carter Center said in posting about his death on the social media platform X. It added in a statement that he died peacefully, surrounded by his family. In his 1975 book “Why Not The Best,” Carter said of himself: “I am a Southerner and an American, I am a farmer, an engineer, a father and husband, a Christian, a politician and former governor, a planner, a businessman, a nuclear physicist, a naval officer, a canoeist, and among other things a lover of Bob Dylan’s songs and Dylan Thomas’s poetry.” A moderate Democrat, Carter entered the 1976 presidential race as a little-known Georgia governor with a broad smile, outspoken Baptist mores and technocratic plans reflecting his education as an engineer. After he left office and returned home to his tiny hometown of Plains in southwest Georgia, Carter regularly taught Sunday School lessons at Maranatha Baptist Church until his mobility declined. Those sessions drew visitors from around the world.None

This release was published on openPR.With the Los Angeles Chargers now playoff bound following a win over the New England Patriots on Saturday afternoon, few have it better than head coach Jim Harbaugh . And his pocketbook is doing well, too. By clinching one of the AFC’s wildcard slots — Kansas City has won the AFC West already — Harbaugh has the Chargers in the tournament and triggered a big bonus, as he’s set to earn $1 million for making it to the postseason, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That’s on top of his already hefty reported base salary of $16 million annually. So it’s a safe bet the cross-country flight from New England back to the West Coast will be a contented one for Harbaugh and Co. And his team on the field has given him plenty of reason to be content, too. Los Angeles is 10-6 with one game remaining, and has been a team reborn largely due to a rapid defensive turnaround, led by coordinator Jesse Minter , who came with Harbaugh from Michigan. That unit entered the day ranked No. 2 in the NFL in points per game and No. 17 in yards allowed. A 40-7 win on Saturday will do little to harm those figures. And while the offense hasn’t been gangbusters, quarterback Justin Herbert appears to have a newfound confidence and conviction to his play and the run game has begun to evolve and progress. It’s been a stark departure from the 5-12 mark that Los Angeles posted in 2023. And it’s hardly the first time Harbaugh has headed up one of these turnarounds. With the Chargers clinching the playoffs on Saturday, Harbaugh becomes the first head coach in the Super Bowl era to take two teams with losing records the prior year to the playoffs in his first year as head coach, according to the AP’s Josh Dubow. He took the San Francisco 49ers to the playoffs in 2011, his first year as head coach there. The Chargers finish the 2024 regular season at the Las Vegas Raiders. A win would push Los Angeles to 11-6, the best win-loss mark for the franchise since the team went 12-4 in 2018. The Chargers are also seeking a playoff win for the first time since that season. This will also be Los Angeles’ first playoff appearance since 2022. This article first appeared on 5 GOATs and was syndicated with permission.

‘Stop Acts That Spark Communal Tension’: Farooq to Centre Srinagar: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Monday said the Centre should put a stop to activities that can spark communal tension in the country, and treat Muslims as equals. “There is a need to stop (incidents like Sambhal). I will tell the government of India to stop (such acts) because they cannot throw the Muslims (of India) into the sea. Where will they throw 24 crore Muslims? Treat Muslims as equals, that is what our Constitution stands for. If they fiddle with the Constitution, how will India survive,” Abdullah asked while speaking to reporters here. The National Conference (NC) president, who recently performed Umrah (minor Hajj pilgrimage) along with his son and chief minister Omar Abdullah and several of his colleagues, said no one was against the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley. “Who is stopping Kashmiri Pandits from coming back? Every political party has said they should return. It is their decision when they want to return. Our hearts are open for them. Even when I was the chief minister, when the situation was bad, we tried to bring them back,” he said. On demands seeking review of the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said the government should review the same. “We will tell the government to review it. Reservation is for the underprivileged sections so that they can come up as equals,” he said. The NC government has formed a Cabinet sub-committee to look into the demands for rationalisation of reservations, which have gone up to 70 per cent in the Union Territory. On Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha last week firing two government employees for their alleged terror links, Abdullah said the government “will keep an eye on everything and go into why the two employees were terminated”. The veteran politician also welcomed the Israel-Lebanon ‘ceasefire’, but called for an end to attacks on Gaza, Syria and Iran as well. “It (ceasefire) is a very good step, but it is necessary to stop attacks jointly being carried out by Israel and America — in Gaza, Syria and Iran, which are continuing even today. This is dangerous. They should immediately resort to ceasefire. “You must have watched the debates in the (UN) Security Council. If there is a purpose for (the existence of) Security Council, it should work on the directions given to Israel. They should enforce a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid,” Abdullah said. On his recent religious pilgrimage, Abdullah said he not only prayed for Kashmir, but for the entire Muslim world. “The problems we are facing today, may Allah deliver us from these. May Allah guide us to the right path. I prayed that we stay away from evil and for the end of religious hatred that has spread in our country. I prayed for unity and harmony,” he said.Defiance Next Gen H2 ETF (NYSEARCA:HDRO) Trading Down 1.4% – Here’s What Happened
