Daily Post Nigeria EPL: You’re not allowed to drop your form — Maresca warns Chelsea forward Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport Sport EPL: You’re not allowed to drop your form — Maresca warns Chelsea forward Published on December 6, 2024 By Ifreke Inyang Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has again called out Noni Madueke, telling the winger he always has to be at his best. Maresca stated this during his press conference ahead of their Premier League trip to Tottenham on Sunday. Madueke scored in their 5-1 win at Southampton, but the Italian is demanding more from the player. “Overall, he’s working well since we started,” Maresca said. “Sometimes he drops a little bit. He’s not allowed to drop. In terms of numbers, he’s doing fantastic with goals and assists. “Off the ball when we ask him to defend and press, he’s doing very well. The only reason I said this the other day is because I want the best from Noni and to get the best, you have to push him. If he relaxes a little bit, it’s wrong.” Related Topics: chelsea EPL Maresca Don't Miss Nnadozie targets WAFCON glory with Super Falcons You may like EPL: Arsenal’s set piece goals shouldn’t stand, they’re illegal – Mikel EPL: Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham vs Chelsea, other fixtures FA Cup third round: Dates for Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd fixtures confirmed EPL: Guardiola to be without 4 key Man City players against Crystal Palace EPL: Amorim rules two Man Utd players out of Nottingham Forest clash EPL: I was disappointed – Cole hits Man Utd for letting midfielder leave Advertise About Us Contact Us Privacy-Policy Terms Copyright © Daily Post Media LtdLocated on the 34th floor of its Chulia Street headquarters, OCBC’s premier private client centre caters to high net worth clients – those who have at least $1 million in deposits or investments with the bank. It also hosts high-fliers of another kind: a pair of peregrine falcons, who have set up their home in a recess 10m above the centre’s balcony. The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on earth, able to fly at speeds of more than 320kmh when diving for prey. The subspecies which resides in Singapore, Falco peregrinus ernesti, can be identified by its solid black head. It is smaller than the migrant Falco peregrinus calidus, which has a thin black facial stripe and flies to the tropics during the winter months in the northern hemisphere. The bird, with a wingspan of up to about 1m, typically mates for life. A biodiversity record compiled by researchers from the National Parks Board (NParks) was published in scientific journal Nature in Singapore in August. It reported that a pair of eggs had been spotted in the recess above OCBC’s premier private client centre, believed to be the first locally documented sign of breeding for the peregrine falcon. Researchers document rare sight of two pangolins fighting The eggs, however, appeared to have been abandoned by the bird that laid them. To retrieve the eggs, NParks enlisted the help of robotics researchers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). Though initially intending to use a drone for the task, the five-member team opted instead to use a device consisting of a telescopic pole and a claw controlled by cables on the ground. Taking inspiration from the falcon’s scientific name, the device was named Ernest, which is short for Egg Retrieval and Nesting Enhancement Support Tool. The apparatus was inspired by the claw machine games found in arcades, said SUTD’s Associate Professor Foong Shaohui, who leads the team. The two eggs were taken to the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, where it was found that the lighter egg had a small crack and a sulphurous smell, indicating that it had decomposed. While the heavier egg was intact, examinations found that it was viable but likely non-fertile. “These observations suggest that the eggs may have been abandoned by the parents due to shell damage,” said Dr Malcolm Soh, principal researcher for wildlife management research at NParks. A research team from NParks installed on Nov 22 a nesting tray with loose gravel in the recess, to assist the falcons in creating a better home and helping them breed. The birds will be able to dig a small scrape in the loose gravel where eggs can be laid, providing them with a softer, more suitable surface for nesting, said Dr Soh. A CCTV camera system was installed to allow researchers to monitor the progress of the falcons’ breeding cycle. The nesting tray will be left in the recess to allow the falcons to familiarise themselves with it ahead of their nesting period which stretches from around end January to early February. If nesting is successful, the eggs are expected to hatch in March 2025, with chicks fledging, or developing the feathers and wing muscles necessary for flight, the following month. The research team will continue to monitor the nest site for subsequent breeding cycles and maintain it if needed, such as by removing debris and replacing the nesting tray substrate. Dr Soh, who leads the research, noted that while the peregrine falcon is one of the most widespread species in the world, most research has been focused on temperate subspecies. The data collected will help bridge the “significant gap” in the understanding of the peregrine falcon’s breeding behaviour in the tropics, he said, adding he believes there are just a “handful of breeding pairs” here. In a natural environment, the falcons would typically nest on limestone cliffs, said Dr Soh. The skyscrapers in the central business district provide a man-made alternative to these cliffs, he added, noting however that the birds will not just choose to nest in any tall building. “The OCBC Centre is quite nice for nesting because they have this very nice overhang shelter, and there’s also a recess where they can feel quite safe when they go in to nest or to rest,” he noted. Pigeons in the CBD also provide an abundant food source for the falcons, Dr Soh added. For staff at the OCBC Centre, the birds have become a familiar sight, with the bank donating $10,000 to support the installation of the nesting tray and CCTV system. OCBC group brand and communications head Koh Ching Ching said the bank is “embracing the wonders of this surprise right outside our office windows”. “Given our longstanding relationship with NParks, we are happy to play a small part in their quest to learn more about this rare breed of peregrine falcon,” she added. “It is sometimes said that when a bird chooses to nest at your home, it can bring good luck to the owner.”New Delhi: The Congress-led MVA 's massive defeat in the strategically key state of Maharashtra is not only another jolt to Congress ' electoral record against the BJP after the Haryana loss, and thus its effort to be the pivot of anti-BJP national politics by building on from its sliver of hope in the general election, the setback also adds to the already volatile equations within the INDIA bloc , making it a task to ensure its future unity. Assembly Election Results Live Updates Maharashtra Election Results Jharkhand Election Results Bypoll Election Results Although the JMM-led front's second consecutive victory in comparatively smaller Jharkhand makes it theoretically a '1-1' NDA-INDIA score, yet, the enormity of the Maharashtra defeat makes the JMM-led victory just a consolation prize for the Opposition, a fact advertised by the gloom at the Congress headquarters throughout the day even when Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made her anticipated first election victory from the safe seat of Wayanad by bettering her brother's 2024 majority mark. The JMM-led front's impressive victory also shows, once again, how the Congress excels these days mostly in piggybacking on regional biggies rather than the other way around. In the Congress leadership structure, guarded by nominated party office bearers, the Gandhi family will continue to enjoy the 'indoor comfort', but in the competitive electoral politics, the Maharashtra defeat once again raises questions about the effectiveness of the 'Gandhi-Vadra mystic' to electorally conquer and deliver (their much-touted 99 tally in the last Lok Sabha poll is still the third-lowest Congress tally in history, scored mostly against non-BJP parties). Priyanka, after Rahul, too opting for the safety of Wayand is seen even in the Congress circles as self-admission of this limitation. While the BJP and RSS reworked their campaign coordination, guarded against caste divisions through "batenge toh katenge" like slogans, wooed back OBCs by tapping their anger against Maratha quota agitation and played up social welfarist schemes like "Laadki Bahin", Rahul Gandhi, like la Rafale campaign in the past, struck to the 'Constitution" and "caste-census" themes. In contrast, the Hemant Soren-led campaign in Jharkhand positioned the front's campaign on welfarist schemes, especially for women, and by cementing unity of tribals and whipping up sympathy for his arrest to beat back the BJP's "infiltrators" plank. Rahul Gandhi campaigned for just five days in Maharashtra and four days in Jharkhand, but spared three days for Wayanad. The 'united Congress' of Maharashtra now stands as battered as the already broken Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SCP). AICC spokespersons indulged in their difficult occupational hazard by defending Gandhi's campaign approach and questioned the credibility of Maharashtra result while hailing victories in Jharkhand and Wayanad. The Maharashtra poll also marked Gandhi and Udhav Thackeray's failure in marketing 'Adani' as an electoral plank by first coining "Adani & Modi ek hai toh safe hai" counter-slogan and then promising to evict the Adani project from Dharavi redevelopment plan besides attempting a Maharashtra-Gujarat divide. While the Congress-led Opposition will raise in Parliament the indictment of Adani in the US, whether the Maharashtra defeat will sap their energy and unity to sustain that agitation is being watched. Bypoll Woes The Congress show in the cluster of Assembly by-elections, too, showed it faring poorly against the BJP, and in comparison to INDIA bloc allies such as TMC and AAP. Barring winning all three seats in Karnataka and retaining a seat in MP, Congress' show in Rajasthan, Assam, Punjab and Gujarat was below par as Congress closes yet another electoral calendar year with little to cheer. A couple of months ago, Lee provided an update on his outlook on chip megastar Nvidia ( NVDA 3.69% ) . Nvidia's run over the last two years is nothing short of unprecedented. Excitement surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) has led to a generational surge in demand for Nvidia's data center services and graphics processing unit (GPU) chipsets. While it's natural to think that Nvidia's momentum is going to slow down at some point, Lee sees things differently -- calling for tenfold growth from current levels over the next decade. Below, I'm going to explore a bull and bear case surrounding Lee's 10x forecast on Nvidia. After carefully considering all angles, I hope investors can come away with more knowledge surrounding both the catalysts and headwinds that could impact Nvidia over the next decade. The bull case for Nvidia If you've been following my articles during the AI boom, you'll know that I see Nov. 30, 2022 as the unofficial start date of the AI revolution. Why so specific? Because that's the day OpenAI released ChatGPT to the masses and sparked a worldwide phenomenon for the ages. In many ways, I view the launch of ChatGPT akin to the early days of Facebook and the birth of social media. NVDA Revenue (Quarterly) data by YCharts Just look at the slope of the lines illustrating Nvidia's revenue, net income, and free cash flow over the last two years (with Nov. 30, 2022 being the start date depicted above). Nvidia's accelerated growth stems from unparalleled demand for its GPU chipsets. When I say "unparalleled" I'm not exaggerating -- Nvidia has acquired an estimated 90% of the GPU market, and there are many reasons to believe the company's momentum is just beginning. Industry research suggests that investments in AI infrastructure are going to exceed trillions of dollars over the next several years. Nvidia's new Blackwell GPU architecture, combined with its successor product dubbed Rubin (slotted for a 2026 launch), positions the company well to acquire incremental market share as AI investments continue to scale. The pace at which Nvidia is innovating, combined with its strong financial profile underscored by consistently rising profits, makes it difficult to buy into a pessimistic narrative over the company. Nevertheless, smart investors know that there are more stones to turn over before betting the house on Nvidia. The bear case for Nvidia One of the reasons Nvidia's GPU sales have skyrocketed stems from how the company's technology stack actually works. You see, Nvidia's GPUs (hardware) run on the company's compute unified device architecture (CUDA) software. This tight integration makes it extremely difficult for businesses to leverage products and services from other chipmakers. As I expressed in this piece from a few months ago , the Department of Justice (DOJ) could very well decide to investigate Nvidia's business practices given the company is arguably becoming a monopoly. Translation: The government could force Nvidia to loosen its grip and make the CUDA system more malleable so that it works seamlessly with GPU hardware developed by other companies. Should this occur, Nvidia's growth rate would decelerate and the company's market share would likely begin to shrink. Admittedly, the idea above is rooted more in speculation than reality. However, a more realistic headwind Nvidia is facing comes from competition. Nvidia's largest customers include cloud hyperscalers such as Microsoft , Alphabet , and Amazon , as well as "Magnificent Seven" cohorts Meta Platforms and Tesla . While increasing investments in AI infrastructure can be a good thing for Nvidia, it's important for investors to understand that this dynamic could also be a detriment for the company. Each of the companies referenced above is either investing in its own homegrown chips or is known to be supplementing its Nvidia GPUs with those offered by lower-cost alternatives -- namely from Advanced Micro Devices . The bottom line At the end of the day, I think that it is highly unlikely that Nvidia's valuation will rise 10x over the next decade. While I remain bullish on the company overall, I simply struggle to see how the company's growth can continue generating multibagger -style returns over the next several years. To me, Nvidia is still a rock-solid stock to own for exposure to the AI industry, but I think calling for tenfold growth in the face of direct and internal competition plus the potential for government intervention is a bit of an overzealous call.

Isaac Newton’s wealth ‘intimately connected’ with slavery, author saysWASHINGTON — As she checked into a recent flight to Mexico for vacation, Teja Smith chuckled at the idea of joining another Women’s March on Washington . As a Black woman, she just couldn’t see herself helping to replicate the largest act of resistance against then-President Donald Trump’s first term in January 2017. Even in an election this year where Trump questioned his opponent’s race , held rallies featuring racist insults and falsely claimed Black migrants in Ohio were eating residents’ pets , he didn't just win a second term. He became the first Republican in two decades to clinch the popular vote, although by a small margin. “It’s like the people have spoken and this is what America looks like,” said Smith, the Los Angeles-based founder of the advocacy social media agency, Get Social. “And there’s not too much more fighting that you’re going to be able to do without losing your own sanity.” After Trump was declared the winner over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris , many politically engaged Black women said they were so dismayed by the outcome that they were reassessing — but not completely abandoning — their enthusiasm for electoral politics and movement organizing. Black women often carry much of the work of getting out the vote in their communities. They had vigorously supported the historic candidacy of Harris, who would have been the first woman of Black and South Asian descent to win the presidency. Harris' loss spurred a wave of Black women across social media resolving to prioritize themselves, before giving so much to a country that over and over has shown its indifference to their concerns. AP VoteCast , a survey of more than 120,000 voters, found that 6 in 10 Black women said the future of democracy in the United States was the single most important factor for their vote this year, a higher share than for other demographic groups. But now, with Trump set to return to office in two months, some Black women are renewing calls to emphasize rest, focus on mental health and become more selective about what fight they lend their organizing power to. “America is going to have to save herself,” said LaTosha Brown, the co-founder of the national voting rights group Black Voters Matter. She compared Black women’s presence in social justice movements as “core strategists and core organizers” to the North Star, known as the most consistent and dependable star in the galaxy because of its seemingly fixed position in the sky. People can rely on Black women to lead change, Brown said, but the next four years will look different. “That’s not a herculean task that’s for us. We don’t want that title. ... I have no goals to be a martyr for a nation that cares nothing about me,” she said. AP VoteCast paints a clear picture of Black women's concerns. Black female voters were most likely to say that democracy was the single most important factor for their vote, compared to other motivators such as high prices or abortion. More than 7 in 10 Black female voters said they were “very concerned” that electing Trump would lead the nation toward authoritarianism, while only about 2 in 10 said this about Harris. About 9 in 10 Black female voters supported Harris in 2024, according to AP VoteCast, similar to the share that backed Democrat Joe Biden in 2020. Trump received support from more than half of white voters, who made up the vast majority of his coalition in both years. Like voters overall, Black women were most likely to say the economy and jobs were the most important issues facing the country, with about one-third saying that. But they were more likely than many other groups to say that abortion and racism were the top issues, and much less likely than other groups to say immigration was the top issue. Despite those concerns, which were well-voiced by Black women throughout the campaign, increased support from young men of color and white women helped expand Trump’s lead and secured his victory. Politically engaged Black women said they don’t plan to continue positioning themselves in the vertebrae of the “backbone” of America’s democracy. The growing movement prompting Black women to withdraw is a shift from history, where they are often present and at the forefront of political and social change. One of the earliest examples is the women’s suffrage movement that led to ratification in 1920 of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution , which gave women the right to vote. Black women, however, were prevented from voting for decades afterward because of Jim Crow-era literacy tests, poll taxes and laws that blocked the grandchildren of slaves from voting. Most Black women couldn’t vote until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Black women were among the organizers and counted among the marchers brutalized on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama, during the historic march in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery that preceded federal legislation. Decades later, Black women were prominent organizers of the Black Lives Matter movement in response to the deaths of Black Americans at the hands of police and vigilantes. In his 2024 campaign, Trump called for leveraging federal money to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs in government programs and discussions of race, gender or sexual orientation in schools. His rhetoric on immigration, including false claims that Black Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating cats and dogs, drove support for his plan to deport millions of people . Tenita Taylor, a Black resident of Atlanta who supported Trump this year, said she was initially excited about Harris’ candidacy. But after thinking about how high her grocery bills have been, she feels that voting for Trump in hopes of finally getting lower prices was a form of self-prioritization. “People say, ‘Well, that’s selfish, it was gonna be better for the greater good,''' she said. “I’m a mother of five kids. ... The things that (Democrats) do either affect the rich or the poor.” Some of Trump’s plans affect people in Olivia Gordon’s immediate community, which is why she struggled to get behind the “Black women rest” wave. Gordon, a New York-based lawyer who supported the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s presidential nominee, Claudia de la Cruz, worries about who may be left behind if the 92% of Black women voters who backed Harris simply stopped advocating. “We’re talking millions of Black women here. If millions of Black women take a step back, it absolutely leaves holes, but for other Black women,” she said. “I think we sometimes are in the bubble of if it’s not in your immediate circle, maybe it doesn’t apply to you. And I truly implore people to understand that it does.” Nicole Lewis, an Alabama-based therapist who specializes in treating Black women’s stress, said she’s aware that Black women withdrawing from social impact movements could have a fallout. But she also hopes that it forces a reckoning for the nation to understand the consequences of not standing in solidarity with Black women. “It could impact things negatively because there isn’t that voice from the most empathetic group,” she said. “I also think it’s going to give other groups an opportunity to step up. ... My hope is that they do show up for themselves and everyone else.” Brown said a reckoning might be exactly what the country needs, but it’s a reckoning for everyone else. Black women, she said, did their job when they supported Harris in droves in hopes they could thwart the massive changes expected under Trump. “This ain’t our reckoning,” she said. “I don’t feel no guilt.” ____ AP polling editor Amelia Thomson DeVeaux and Associated Press writer Linley Sanders in Washington contributed to this report.
